ACT I: The Files That Schrödinger Would Appreciate
Let us examine a fascinating philosophical paradox currently unfolding in American politics. The files simultaneously exist and don’t exist. They’re important enough to promise releasing them during campaign season, yet trivial enough to dismiss as “nobody cares about this dead guy” when in office.
Brilliant, really.
The Timeline of Contradictions:
Campaign 2024: “We will release the Epstein files! Transparency!”
February 2025: Attorney General Bondi announces the client list is “sitting on my desk”
July 2025: Justice Department memo: “Actually, no client list exists”
July 2025 (same month): Trump: “It’s a Democrat hoax!”
November 2025: Trump: “Fine, release them! But investigate Bill Clinton first!”
If you’re confused, you’re paying attention.
ACT II: The Three-Step Scandal Waltz
Research has documented Trump’s response pattern to controversy. It’s remarkably consistent:
Step 1: Deny - “I barely knew the guy, despite thousands of photos of us together, grinding our teeth at parties, always leering at something off-camera - probably a book we’re excited to read.” (That’s actually from Saturday Night Live, but honestly, reality has become indistinguishable from satire.)
Step 2: Divert - “What about Bill Clinton? What about Larry Summers? What about that guy, whatever his name is?”
Step 3: Discredit - “It’s a hoax! Fake news! Democrat witch hunt! Also the shutdown is their fault somehow!”
It’s like watching someone play three-card monte with the truth, except all the cards say “Look Over There!” and somehow people keep betting.
ACT III: The Whataboutism Olympics
Here’s where it gets properly Pythonesque.
Trump is now demanding investigations into people the FBI already stated - in writing, in July - they found no evidence against.
The FBI: “We investigated. Nothing there.”
Trump (November): “Investigate them immediately!”
It’s the investigative equivalent of the Dead Parrot sketch:
“This investigation has ceased to be! It’s expired and gone to meet its maker! This is a late investigation! It’s a stiff! Bereft of evidence! If you hadn’t nailed it to the political perch, it’d be pushing up the daisies!”
But we’re investigating it anyway.
The Technical Term
Political scientists call this “whataboutism” - a Cold War Soviet propaganda technique where you respond to accusations not with defense, but with counter-accusations.
Journalist: “What about these Epstein connections?”
Response: “What about Bill Clinton’s connections?”
Journalist: “Okay, but what about YOUR connections?”
Response: “WHAT ABOUT THE DEMOCRATS?”
It’s turtles made of deflection all the way down.
ACT IV: When Your Own Team Breaks Ranks
The truly delicious irony?
Marjorie Taylor Greene - yes, that Marjorie Taylor Greene - the woman who believes in Jewish space lasers, called Trump’s refusal to release the files “a huge miscalculation.”
When MTG thinks you’ve miscalculated your conspiracy theory approach, you’ve truly entered uncharted waters.
Four House Republicans joined all 214 Democrats to force a vote on releasing the files. Trump’s response was to call MTG a “ranting lunatic” and declare this whole Epstein thing a “hoax.”
The files don’t exist. They do exist but can’t be released. Actually, they’re a hoax. But also, investigate everyone else mentioned in them.
Pick a lane, mate.
ACT V: The Ministry of Truth Would Be Impressed
The right-wing influencers who spent YEARS demanding “Release the Epstein files! Expose the cabal!” have now pivoted beautifully.
New emails released showing Trump connections?
Their take: “Nothingburgers. Probably fake. Also, Trump was clearly an FBI informant gathering evidence against Epstein.”
Yes. The man who spent decades as Epstein’s friend was secretly Batman all along.
The cognitive gymnastics required here deserve Olympic gold medals.
The Educational Bit (Still Dry, I Promise)
What we’re witnessing is a textbook case of authoritarian communication tactics:
Control the narrative - Flood the zone with contradictory statements
Attack institutions - Discredit anyone asking questions (FBI, media, courts)
Project your sins onto opponents - Accuse them of exactly what you’re doing
Create alternative reality - Your supporters will choose the version they prefer
Never apologize, never explain - Just move to the next thing
The brilliance is this: By taking every possible position simultaneously, supporters can cherry-pick whichever Trump statement confirms their preferred reality.
He’s both the guy who will expose the elite pedophile ring AND the guy calling it a hoax. Schrödinger’s whistleblower.
The Punchline
The House will vote next week to release the files. It’ll probably pass. Then it goes to the Senate, where it needs 60 votes. Republicans hold 53 seats.
So we’ll have:
Months of “hoax” claims
Investigations of political opponents with no evidence
Continued contradictory statements
And probably no file release
Meanwhile, the longest government shutdown in US history just ended, there are actual policy issues to address, and we’re all watching this three-ring circus about a dead financier and files that may or may not exist depending on what day you ask.
The Algorithm Applies Here
Pay attention: This is the pattern.
Do your best: Recognize deflection when you see it.
Share what works: Point out the contradictions to others.
Start where you are: With facts, not spin.
The Moral of Our Story:
When someone accused of being in files demands investigation of others also in the same files while simultaneously claiming the files are a hoax and also don’t exist but definitely shouldn’t be released...
You’re not watching politics.
You’re watching performance art.
The joke, unfortunately, is that this actually works on millions of people.
“He’s not the Messiah, he’s a very naughty boy!”
— Brian’s Mum, who clearly understood deflection tactics better than most modern political analysts
🪶Peace, Love and Respect
— and for the love of all that’s holy, pay attention to what people DO, not what they SAY
P.S. - If you found yourself laughing and crying simultaneously while reading this, welcome to 2025. The absurdity is the point. The pattern recognition is the resistance.
