The Epstein Timeline Problem: When Stories Don’t Add Up
Definitions Matter (I Hope So Anyway—It Gets Really Confusing Nowadays)
Timeline: A linear sequence of events. Also, apparently, a creative writing exercise.
Whistleblower: Someone who reports wrongdoing to authorities. Not someone who calls police after the arrest has already happened.
Cut ties: To sever all contact with someone. Not to maybe call them seven years later about Virginia.
The Facts, No Spin
Layer 1: What’s the Obvious Answer?
Trump says he kicked Epstein out of Mar-a-Lago around 2004-2006 when he discovered Epstein was recruiting girls from his spa. He claims he called police and ended the friendship, portraying himself as someone who took action when he learned of Epstein’s behavior.
Layer 2: What Am I Missing?
The newly released emails tell a different story. Here’s what actually happened, according to Department of Justice documents:
April 2, 2011: Epstein emails Ghislaine Maxwell: “I want you to realize that that dog that hasn’t barked is trump. Virginia spent hours at my house with him ,, he has never once been mentioned”. Maxwell responds: “I have been thinking about that.”
April 18, 2011: Epstein emails William Riley, who was hired to investigate Epstein’s victims: “Before I call Trump. with regard Virginia are there any other alternatives”
December 20, 2016: One month after Trump won the 2016 election, Epstein emails Bill Gates: “come to visit the island. new adminstration people visiting”
January 31, 2019: Epstein emails author Michael Wolff about Mar-a-Lago: “Trump said he asked me to resign, never a member ever. Of course he knew about the girls as he asked ghislaine to stop”
Layer 3: What Question Should I Actually Be Asking?
Not “Did Trump know Epstein?” Everyone knows they were friends.
The real question: If Trump truly cut ties in 2004-2006, why was Epstein planning to call him about Virginia Giuffre in 2011—and what were “new administration people” doing visiting Epstein’s island in 2016?
The Timeline That Doesn’t Work
2000: Virginia Giuffre is recruited by Ghislaine Maxwell while working as a spa attendant at Mar-a-Lago. Her father was a maintenance worker at the resort and knew Trump.
2005: Epstein arrested in Florida.
2006: Trump claims he called police after Epstein was already arrested, saying he was being helpful. (Narrator: That’s not how whistleblowing works.)
February-March 2011: Virginia Giuffre’s story breaks in the Mail on Sunday, including the infamous photograph with Prince Andrew. The photo shows Andrew with his arm around Giuffre’s waist at Maxwell’s London home, with Maxwell visible in the background.
April 2, 2011: One month after Giuffre goes public, Epstein tells Maxwell that Trump is “the dog that hasn’t barked”—a Sherlock Holmes reference meaning the absence of an expected event. Why would Epstein and Maxwell expect Trump to be mentioned?
April 18, 2011: Epstein contacts his investigator about calling Trump regarding Virginia, asking if there are “any other alternatives”.
December 2016: Epstein tells Bill Gates that “new administration people” are visiting his island, one month before Trump’s inauguration.
Do you see the problem? That’s a seven-year gap between the alleged friend-breakup and continued contact. Either Trump’s clock runs very slowly, or someone is being creative with the truth.
A Brief Absurdist Sketch
Scene: A courtroom. TRUMP sits in the witness box. PROSECUTOR stands.
PROSECUTOR: Mr. Trump, you say you cut ties with Jeffrey Epstein in 2006?
TRUMP: Absolutely. Tremendous cut. Best tie-cutting you’ve ever seen.
PROSECUTOR: And you never spoke to him after that?
TRUMP: Never. Total stranger. Didn’t know the guy.
PROSECUTOR: (holds up document) This is an email from April 2011 where Epstein writes “Before I call Trump with regard Virginia—”
TRUMP: Fake news.
PROSECUTOR: It’s from the Department of Justice.
TRUMP: Fake department.
PROSECUTOR: You appointed the Attorney General.
TRUMP: (pause) Fake appointment?
End scene.
The Virginia Giuffre Connection
Virginia Giuffre consistently stated under oath that Trump was not involved in any wrongdoing with her, and in her posthumous memoir described him as friendly, saying he “couldn’t have been friendlier”. She tragically died by suicide in April 2025.
But here’s what makes the timeline stranger:
When Trump acknowledged Maxwell’s recruiting at Mar-a-Lago in July 2025, he initially said he didn’t know if Giuffre was one of the workers recruited, then quickly said it was indeed her. Her father was a maintenance worker at Mar-a-Lago and got her the job there in 2000. Trump knew the family.
So Trump:
Knew Virginia’s father who worked for him
Knew Virginia worked in his spa
Knew Epstein was recruiting from his spa
Says he kicked Epstein out for this
But somehow five years later, Epstein is consulting him about Virginia?
The math isn’t mathing.
What Could This Mean?
Optimistic View
Maybe these are just innocent business calls about completely unrelated matters that Epstein cryptically referenced in emails to make himself seem more connected than he was. Maybe “new administration people” were visiting to discuss... infrastructure? Tax policy? The exciting world of Caribbean real estate development?
Realistic View
Epstein described Trump as “the dog that hasn’t barked,” suggesting he and Maxwell expected news about Trump to come out but it hadn’t. This was written during Epstein’s legal attack mode against Prince Andrew’s accusations. The emails suggest coordination between Trump and Epstein continued well after their supposed falling out.
Consequences
More than three-quarters of Americans think the Trump administration should release all Epstein files with victims’ names redacted. The public wants transparency. What they’re getting instead is selective releases, heavy redactions, and a lot of “I don’t recall.”
The Monty Python Moment
You know that scene in Life of Brian where they’re trying to stone someone but can’t agree on who cast the first stone?
“Right. Who threw that?”
Silence
“Come on. Who threw that stone?”
More silence
“She did! She did!”
Crowd erupts
That’s basically every Epstein document release. Everyone pointing fingers, nobody taking responsibility, and somewhere in the background, a confused Pilate wondering how he got dragged into this mess.
Except in our version, the crowd is Republicans and Democrats, the stone is a 3.5-million-page document dump, and Pilate is the American public just wanting some actual answers.
Follow the Money: The Missing Link
The Deutsche Bank Connection
Here’s where the timeline gets expensive.
Deutsche Bank processed billions in suspicious transactions that flowed through Epstein’s accounts. And here’s the thing: Deutsche Bank also served as Trump’s primary lender for decades, providing him with over $2 billion in loans when virtually every other major bank had cut him off.
The same bank. The same compliance officers who flagged Epstein’s transactions also flagged Trump’s. And in both cases, bank management overruled their anti-money laundering specialists because these were “lucrative clients.”
Senator Ron Wyden’s investigation uncovered something extraordinary: Epstein used several now-sanctioned Russian banks for hundreds of millions of dollars in wire transfers that appeared to correlate with the movement of women or girls around the world.
In 2019, after Epstein’s arrest, banks finally started filing Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs):
JPMorgan flagged $1.1 billion in transactions, including 4,700 wire transfers dating back over a decade
Deutsche Bank flagged about $400 million
Bank of New York Mellon flagged $378 million
Bank of America also filed reports
Some banks flagged more than $170 million in payments to Epstein seven years late—only after he had already died in his cell.
A former Deutsche Bank anti-money laundering officer, Tammy Hill-McFadden, told the FBI she was marginalized and then fired after raising concerns about Epstein’s transactions. When she later flagged Trump-related transactions, she was unable to determine the origin of the funds because Deutsche’s systems didn’t communicate with each other.
The Modeling Agency Machine
But banks were just the plumbing. The real infrastructure was modeling agencies.
In 1999, Trump launched Trump Model Management. The agency requested US visas for almost 250 international fashion models, many from Eastern Europe. Former Trump models alleged they worked without proper work visas.
This wasn’t unique to Trump. It was the industry standard:
John Casablancas founded Elite Model Management, pioneering the model of turning teenage girls into “glamorized assets”
Jean-Luc Brunel founded MC2 Model Management and received at least $1 million from Epstein to expand operations
Paolo Zampolli specialized in using U.S. immigration loopholes to bring in young foreign models from Eastern Europe and South America under false pretenses
And here’s where it gets interesting: Zampolli reportedly arranged Melania’s visa to come to the United States. She entered the modeling agency system just like everyone else.
The Les Wexner Factor
Then there’s Les Wexner, the Victoria’s Secret billionaire who was Epstein’s main client and gave him power of attorney over his vast wealth.
Trump, Epstein, and Wexner all signed Epstein’s 50th birthday card in 2003 with lewd drawings. According to the Wall Street Journal, Trump’s signature was written inside a hand-drawn outline of a nude woman.
But the Victoria’s Secret connection goes deeper. Epstein posed as a Victoria’s Secret recruiter to lure young women, and a female executive confronted Wexner about this in 1993, but the behavior continued.
Wexner claims he cut ties with Epstein in 2007, but an email four days before Epstein’s 2008 guilty plea shows Wexner writing to Epstein: “All I can say is I feel sorry. You violated your own number 1 rule … Always be careful”.
Wexner later discovered Epstein had stolen or misappropriated hundreds of millions of dollars from him, which Epstein returned $100 million in a private settlement to avoid “unnecessary public attention.”
The Network
This wasn’t isolated incidents. It was a system:
Modeling agencies recruited young women from Eastern Europe and elsewhere, often on questionable visas
Banks (especially Deutsche Bank) processed the money, ignoring red flags
Russian financial networks moved hundreds of millions in suspicious transfers
Real estate allowed money laundering through inflated property sales
Private jets and islands provided infrastructure and isolation
Everyone was connected:
Trump and Epstein were friends from the 1980s onward
Both banked at Deutsche Bank
Both ran modeling agencies in the late 1990s/early 2000s
Both were connected to Wexner and the Victoria’s Secret empire
Both had connections to Russian oligarchs and questionable Russian financing
As one analysis put it: “This wasn’t red vs. blue. This was green. Profits, protection, proximity to power”.
What We Still Don’t Know
The Treasury Department has an Epstein file. Senator Wyden has seen parts of it. It contains information about hundreds of millions of dollars in wire transfers through Russian banks correlated to the movement of women and girls.
That file has not been fully released. Neither have the complete Deutsche Bank records, which exist under protective order from civil settlements totaling $75 million.
Les Wexner is being deposed by Congress on February 18, 2026. What he knows could fill in many blanks.
The money trail is there. It just hasn’t been followed all the way to the end.
Truth Matters
Here’s what we know for certain:
Trump and Epstein were friends in the 1980s and 1990s
Virginia Giuffre was recruited from Mar-a-Lago by Maxwell in 2000
Epstein was planning to contact Trump about Virginia in 2011, seven years after their alleged falling out
Epstein told Bill Gates in December 2016 that “new administration people” were visiting his island
Epstein wrote in 2019 that Trump “knew about the girls” and asked Maxwell to stop recruiting from Mar-a-Lago
What we don’t know:
What the 2011 phone call was about (or if it even happened)
Who the “new administration people” were
Why Trump’s timeline keeps shifting
When we’ll get full transparency
