☞ The Setup: A Very Boring Disclosure Form Becomes Very Interesting
Every president is required by law to file a financial disclosure. It is, in theory, one of the most boring documents in existence — a spreadsheet of assets meant to ensure the public can see whether the person running the country has any conflicts of interest.
Trump’s latest 278-T disclosure form, filed May 8, 2026, became briefly the most interesting document on the internet. Because buried inside it was something remarkable: a sudden, explosive surge in stock trading activity coinciding almost perfectly with the outbreak of the Iran war — and with a series of very public presidential endorsements of specific companies.
This is not a story about a smoking gun. Courts haven’t found one. Charges haven’t been filed. The president’s team says the trading is done by “fully discretionary accounts independently managed by third party financial institutions with sole and exclusive authority over all investment decisions.”
You may recognise this explanation. Nancy Pelosi uses the same one. About her husband’s trades. Which are also extremely good. By coincidence.
Anyway. Let’s look at the trades.
🧠 Three-Layer Thinking Framework
Layer 1 — The Surface: The president files a disclosure. It shows lots of stock trades. Some went up after he mentioned the companies publicly. That’s either good stock-picking by independent managers, or it’s alarming. Hard to say.
Layer 2 — The Blind Spot: The pattern is the story. Before the Iran war started in early 2026, the trading record was almost flat. Then suddenly: thousands of trades. The Financial Times charted it. The curve goes from nearly horizontal to nearly vertical. The timing of the uptick maps almost exactly to geopolitical events the president would have had advance knowledge of. The “independent managers” theory requires you to believe that they, independently, happened to dramatically increase their activity at the exact moment the president’s policy decisions were about to move markets.
Layer 3 — The Reframe: The real question is not “did Trump do insider trading.” The real question is: why does a system exist where we cannot know? The STOCK Act of 2012 was supposed to prevent this. Congress passed it unanimously. Everyone stood up and cheered. And then: nothing. Enforcement: zero. The SEC and DOJ — institutions now significantly hollowed out — are not investigating. Jim Cramer on CNBC visibly short-circuited on air when asked to comment. They cut to commercial. Squawk on the Street — a show that exists specifically to discuss financial news — went silent when the financial news touched the president.
The system has not failed. The system is working exactly as designed: for the people who designed it.
📊 The Facts, No Spin
What the disclosure shows (documented):
Dell Technologies: Purchases of approximately $5 million begin February 10, 2026, continuing through March. On May 8, Trump publicly tells people to “go out and buy a Dell.” Dell stock roughly doubled from purchase to peak. This is, as the kids say, an incredible trade.
Micron Technology: Multiple purchases documented in the filing, culminating in Trump calling Micron “one of the hottest companies.” The stock went parabolic immediately after. As Coffeezilla notes, he nearly called the bottom exactly.
Palantir (PLTR): Trump tweeted the stock ticker symbol directly — “PLTR has proven to have great warfighting capabilities and equipment. Just ask our enemies.” The disclosure shows he had bought high, begun selling as it dropped, and tweeted his endorsement roughly at the lows. The stock continued to fall. This is known in financial circles as a bag hold with extra steps.
Thermo Fisher Scientific: Purchases including one on the exact day (March 11) the White House announced Trump’s “site visit” to the company. The trade did not go well. Which doesn’t mean it wasn’t ethically problematic — it just means it was ethically problematic and financially bad, which is a particular kind of special.
The broader pattern: The Financial Times published a chart showing trade volume was near-zero before early 2026, then surged dramatically around the Iran war escalation. Senator Chris Murphy put a number on the S&P 500 move alone: $1.5 billion. Oil futures spiked $580 million in the hours before Trump delayed Iran strike plans — a timeline NPR, CBS, and Axios documented in March 2026.
What is NOT proven: No court has found Trump personally directed these trades. No criminal charges have been filed. The disclosure does not prove guilt. It proves the appearance of conflicts so glaring that in any functioning enforcement environment, they would trigger an investigation. We note this carefully, because accuracy is not optional here — it’s the point.
💰 Now, Who Paid For The Party?
Before we even get to the trades, let’s talk about who showed up to the inauguration with a check.
Trump’s 2025 inauguration raised $239 million — more than double his own 2017 record, nearly four times Biden’s total. The committee imposed no contribution limits. This is legal. It is also, in the words of a senior Brennan Center analyst, a “fundamental redefinition” of how inaugurations are funded.
The donors and what they got (documented):
The $300 million White House ballroom — yes, this is real, yes it is happening — added a second donor list: 37 names, including Palantir again, crypto firms Coinbase and Tether, Amazon, Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Harold Hamm. The White House confirmed the list is incomplete because “some companies don’t want to be named until required to.”
This is the part where we note that paying for access to power is not, in itself, illegal. The entire American lobbying and donation system is built on this principle. What makes this cycle qualitatively different is the scale, the simultaneity — donations, appointments, regulatory relief, and stock movements all occurring in an interconnected pattern — and the near-total absence of enforcement.
🕸️ The Long Thread: Epstein, Maxwell, and the Blackmail Architecture
A note before we proceed: what follows involves documented facts, credible allegations, disputed claims, and unverified assertions. We separate them carefully. The goal is not to convict anyone — it’s to explain what is known, what is claimed, and what remains unanswered.
What Is Documented
Trump and Epstein had a long friendship. This is not in dispute. Trump himself said in 2002: “I’ve known Jeff for fifteen years. Terrific guy. He’s a lot of fun to be with.” Flight logs presented in court show Trump flew on Epstein’s private jet at least seven times in the 1990s. They partied together at Mar-a-Lago in 1992. CNN’s comprehensive review of court records, photographs, and interviews describes “an enduring relationship until the mid-2000s.” Three people who knew both men — Epstein victim Maria Farmer, model Stacey Williams, and former Trump casino executive Jack O’Donnell — all described Trump as Epstein’s “best friend” in separate CNN interviews.
Trump now denies the depth of the friendship. The documentation makes that denial difficult to sustain.
Ghislaine Maxwell’s father, Robert Maxwell, had documented ties to Israeli intelligence. Robert Maxwell was a British media tycoon, born Ján Ludvík Hyman Binyamin Hoch in Czechoslovakia. He died in 1991 after falling from his yacht. Israel gave him a state funeral attended by multiple prime ministers, with Shimon Peres delivering the eulogy. Gordon Thomas’s biography Robert Maxwell: Israel’s Superspy argues he was a confirmed Mossad asset. Former Israeli intelligence officer Ari Ben-Menashe claims he saw Epstein in Robert Maxwell’s office multiple times in the 1980s.
Ehud Barak, former Israeli PM and military chief, had an unusually close relationship with Epstein. Flight logs and photographic records show Barak visited Epstein’s properties approximately 36 times between 2013 and 2017. In 2017, Barak was photographed leaving Epstein’s Manhattan apartment with his face covered. He and Epstein co-founded Carbyne, a tech startup staffed by veterans of Israeli intelligence Unit 8200. The released DOJ documents show Barak received $2 million from the Wexner Foundation for vague “research.”
Alexander Acosta, the U.S. Attorney who gave Epstein his extraordinarily lenient 2008 plea deal, later told a transition team interviewer that “Epstein belonged to intelligence” and he had been told to “leave it alone.” Acosta later served as Trump’s Labor Secretary. He resigned in 2019 when public outrage over the Epstein plea deal resurfaced.
Les Wexner, founder of Victoria’s Secret, was Epstein’s primary financial backer. Wexner gave Epstein power of attorney over his $1.4 billion fortune in 1989 — an extraordinary act for a man “virtually unknown on Wall Street.” Wexner is a co-founder of the Mega Group, an informal circle of pro-Israel billionaires focused on policy influence.
What Is Credibly Alleged But Not Proven
Former intelligence officer Ben-Menashe claims Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell were Mossad assets recruited through Robert Maxwell, running a “honey-trap” blackmail operation. Steven Hoffenberg, Epstein’s former business partner who served prison time while Epstein did not, claimed before his 2022 death that Epstein admitted Mossad ties. King’s College London lecturer Ahron Bregman told Al Jazeera it was “unlikely that Epstein was not approached by the Mossad.”
Journalist Whitney Webb has written extensively — and controversially — about Epstein as part of what she describes as a joint CIA-Mossad operation to gather kompromat on global elites. The documentary evidence supporting the network’s existence is substantial; the specific claim of coordinated intelligence operation remains unproven in any legal sense.
What Al Jazeera’s February 2026 report confirmed: The newly released DOJ documents show Epstein funding Friends of the Israeli Defence Forces and the Jewish National Fund, extensive contact with Israeli military intelligence aide Yoni Koren (whose cancer treatment Epstein appears to have paid for), and audio recordings of Epstein and Barak discussing plans to “import 1 million more Russian migrants to Israel.”
Israel’s government denies it. Former PM Naftali Bennett called the Mossad connection “categorically and totally false.” Former PM Netanyahu wrote: “Jeffrey Epstein’s unusually close relationship with Ehud Barak doesn’t suggest Epstein worked for Israel.” Current Israeli intelligence leadership does not comment.
The Peter Thiel Thread
Palantir was co-founded by Peter Thiel. It is named after the “seeing stones” from Lord of the Rings — objects that corrupted everyone who used them. It builds software that connects government databases for cross-referencing and surveillance.
Palantir donated to Trump’s White House ballroom. Palantir’s stock ticker was personally tweeted by the president. Palantir’s federal contracts have “soared” under the Trump administration, per multiple reports. Palantir appears in Trump’s financial disclosure as a stock the president’s accounts were trading while he simultaneously promoted it.
Thiel funded Curtis Yarvin’s political philosophy startup. JD Vance cited Yarvin by name as an intellectual influence. Yarvin’s plan to “fire every midlevel bureaucrat and replace them with our people” became, under a different name, DOGE.
This is not a conspiracy theory. These are documented associations, publicly acknowledged, connected by paper trails and statements the participants themselves have made.
🎭 The Absurdist Sketch
SCENE: A congressional hearing room, 2026. Several members of Congress are giving passionate speeches about the need to ban insider trading.
CONGRESSMAN A: “Members of Congress cannot corruptly profit from using insider information!”
(Standing ovation. Everyone in the room stands, including several people who have been corruptly profiting from insider information for years.)
CONGRESSMAN B: “We must stop this! We must act!”
(Sustained applause. Nobody acts.)
MODERATOR: “And now, a word from our financial news correspondents.”
(Cut to Jim Cramer at CNBC, who opens his mouth, says nothing, smiles awkwardly, and stares into the middle distance for eleven seconds while his soul exits his body on live television.)
PRODUCER (off-camera): “We got to go, Jim. We’ll see you tonight.”
(Credits roll. The market opens.)
🔍 What Are We Missing?
Several threads remain unresolved:
The $TRUMP meme coin. Launched three days before the 2025 inauguration. 813,294 wallets lost money. Total losses: $2 billion. 58 wallets made more than $10 million each. Over 76% of top holders used foreign exchanges unavailable to US residents — meaning foreign nationals could buy direct access to the president through crypto purchases not subject to campaign disclosure rules. This was called “Idi Amin-level corruption” by Trump’s own former communications director Anthony Scaramucci.
Trumpmobile.com security breach. Coffeezilla (Voidzilla) reported this week that the Trump-branded mobile phone service has an active security exploit leaking customer data — including mailing addresses and email addresses — that the company has not responded to after being notified. Penguinz0 confirmed the exploit was real after his own data was found accessible. The real number of customers: approximately 10,000 unique customers, roughly 30,000 orders total — about 5% of the 600,000 figure previously reported. Which may explain why it hasn’t been fixed: nobody’s home.
The enforcement vacuum. The SEC has dropped or paused over a dozen cases against crypto firms that donated to the inauguration. The DOJ under Pam Bondi concluded there was “no evidence of a client list” in the Epstein case — a finding that contradicted years of statements from Trump’s own allies. The officials who would normally investigate trading irregularities report to an administration that is the subject of those irregularities. This is the ouroboros: the snake eating its own tail, wearing a tie, ringing the opening bell.
📐 The Dimensional Frame
Individual scale: Retail investors who bought the meme coin lost money. Retail investors who held Dell, Micron, or Palantir had wildly different outcomes depending on when they got in relative to presidential endorsements they didn’t know were coming. The playing field is not level. It never was. But it’s more visibly tilted than at any recent point.
Institutional scale: The inauguration donor system functioned as a legal access market. Companies bought proximity. Regulatory relief followed. The pattern is not hidden — it’s filed with the FEC. The system permits it. The system was designed to permit it, with the understanding that public scrutiny would provide a check. Public scrutiny requires a functioning press. The press, as noted, went to commercial.
Civilizational scale: The architecture described across the Epstein files, the Maxwell intelligence network, the Mega Group, the Peter Thiel / Palantir / surveillance complex, the crypto donation pipeline, and the stock trading pattern represents something larger than any individual actor. It describes an interconnected web of financial, intelligence, and political interests operating across decades, jurisdictions, and administrations — of both parties. The grandmother’s algorithm says: Pay attention. Do your best. Pay it forward. The system being described here has inverted all three.
Etymology Corner
“Disclosure” — from Latin discludere, to open up, lay bare. From dis- (apart) + claudere (to close). To un-close. The financial disclosure is, in theory, the thing that opens what power tries to keep shut.
“Insider” — from Old English innan (within) + sīde (side). The inside. The people who already know. Trading on what you know that others don’t isn’t just financially profitable — it is an act of violence against the premise of equal information on which markets claim to operate.
“Intelligence” — from Latin intelligentia, to understand, to choose between. From inter- (between) + legere (to read, to choose). Intelligence is, literally, the ability to read between things. Which is either what spies do, or what we’re doing right now.
☀️ A Small Optimism (Required By Law)
The Epstein Files Transparency Act passed nearly unanimously. Trump tried to stop it personally. He was outmaneuvered. The documents came out. Coffeezilla/Voidzilla investigated the trading record and published it. Judd Legum at Popular Information did the same. The Financial Times charted it. The Brennan Center analyzed the inauguration money. Al Jazeera tracked the Epstein-Israel connections through the released documents.
The information exists. The pattern is visible. The tools for seeing it are available to anyone with internet access. That’s not nothing. In a world of active suppression, the fact that we can see this at all is the thing worth protecting.
Pay attention. That’s step one.
